Chennai, August 26, 2025:
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has successfully completed the RDSO safety certification trials for its Phase 2 metro trains in the stretch between Poonamallee Bypass and Porur Junction Metro Stations.
The certification trials, conducted by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Ministry of Railways, began on August 16, 2025. During the trials, the metro trains were tested at different speeds up to the design speed of 90 kmph. The evaluation mainly focused on:
- Ride Comfort – To check how smooth the journey will be for passengers.
- Safety Systems – Including traction performance, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, and detailed braking tests under multiple scenarios.
The results confirmed that the trains are designed and built to meet high safety standards. Importantly, the braking system proved capable of bringing a fully loaded train to a halt within the safest distance. Interestingly, these trials were completed ahead of schedule, showcasing CMRL’s commitment to quality and timely execution.
