The hospital shares its campus with the medical college, and the whole atmosphere felt calm and well organised. We went directly to the second floor, to the gastroenterology department, where there was already a fair crowd waiting.
We explained the situation to the receptionist, and they started her registration — a flat fee of ₹150 covered registration along with basic checks like height, weight, and blood pressure. After that, we waited about 15 minutes before her consultation.

After she signed the consent form, she was taken to the ward to change into hospital clothes.
Almost two hours had passed by the time I went in to check on her. She told me that once the anaesthesia was given, she fell asleep almost immediately and woke up about an hour later with no memory of the test itself and no pain. Even after waking up, the doctors kept her under observation for another two hours, with a few short walks in between, just to rule out any complications.
By the time every formality was wrapped up, close to four hours had gone by since we’d arrived. The total bill came to around ₹17,500, covering the test, the consultation, bed charges, monitoring, and lab charges. They handed us the test film along with an initial report and a full breakdown of the charges.
Since the doctors had taken a tissue sample from the colon for a biopsy, we were told to come back after three days to collect the detailed lab report. When we returned, the same team verified the billing details and directed us to the lab reports counter on the first floor, where we got the reports in about 15 minutes.

- A cafeteria on the first floor for tea and snacks, with more food options just outside the building.
- Doctors and nurses were polite across the board — the senior doctor who consulted with us before the test explained everything patiently.
- The entire building is air-conditioned, and cleaning staff keep every floor spotless through the day.
- During the test, patients are given coconut water and light snacks, and the ward clothes are sent for washing right after use.
SRM Hospital Ramapuram: What Could Be Better
- Lab reports are only given as physical printouts — an online option would save people a trip.
- There’s no direct contact number for report-related queries, either on the report itself or online — you’re left with a general customer care number.
- The hospital is on a narrow stretch of road near Porur DLF, close to a busy four-way signal, so traffic can get heavy during peak hours.
How to Reach SRM Hospital, Ramapuram
Metro connectivity hasn’t reached this route yet, so a cab or your own vehicle is the easiest option. MTC buses do run this way too, but you’ll need to get off at Ramapuram bus stop and take an auto the rest of the way. SRM Hospital also has branches in Vadapalani, Nanganallur, and Kattankulathur. The Vadapalani branch is just behind Forum Mall on the main road, which makes it one of the easier branches to get to.
