I headed over to the newly opened DMart Avadi on Saturday (23.05.2026) to stock up on our monthly home essentials. If you live around Avadi or Poonamallee, you know how chaotic weekend grocery shopping can get. I wanted to see if this branch lives up to the usual DMart hype, and honestly, I walked out pretty impressed.
Here is everything I figured out during my visit, from the best bus routes to the exact discounts I found on the shelves.
Getting There: Location & Transport to Dmart Avadi
The store is located right on Avadi Road in the Govardhanagiri area. It’s hard to miss because it sits exactly opposite the South Indian Bank branch.
If you are coming by public transport, the Govardhanagiri Bus Stop is just a short walk away. Because it’s on the main road, autos and cabs are constantly passing by.
- By Bus: MTC routes 62 and 65B stop here frequently.
- By Train: If you’re taking the suburban train, get down at Avadi Railway Station. Walk over to the Avadi Market side (near the Avadi Corporation Office), and you can easily catch the 62 or 65B bus straight to the store.
- Landmarks: There is a petrol bunk and a KFC just a few meters down the road if you need a landmark.
The Parking Situation (A Huge Plus)
Parking is usually my biggest headache in Chennai, but DMart Avadi actually got this right. They have a massive open parking lot as well as an underground basement section for cars, plus a completely separate open area dedicated to bikes. They even have security staff actively guiding you into spots, which kept traffic moving smoothly.

My only complaint: The outdoor parking has absolutely no shade. If you park your bike or car out there during a hot afternoon or a sudden rainy day, your vehicle is going to bear the brunt of the weather. Try to snag a basement spot if you can.
Inside the Store: Cleanliness and Crowd Levels
The first thing I noticed when walking in was how cold and comfortable the AC was—a massive relief from the May heat. The store is incredibly clean and everything is neatly organized.
I went during a weekend evening, which is usually prime rush hour, but I was surprised to find it relatively calm. I think this is because a lot of shoppers from the Poonamallee side still stick to the Kumananchavadi DMart, so this outer Avadi branch stays much more manageable.
A Quick Warning on Trolleys: Even though the crowd wasn’t overwhelming, shopping carts were running a bit low on the ground floor. If you go during a major peak time (like the first weekend of the month), you might have to wait a couple of minutes for a cart to free up.
Floor Breakdown & The Best Deals I Spotted
The store layout is split across two floors, and the stairs/lifts are easy to navigate (they have three lifts on the ground floor).
- Ground Floor: This is entirely dedicated to groceries, beverages, frozen foods, and daily cooking essentials.
- First Floor: This houses men’s and women’s apparel, home electronics, plastics, kitchen tools, footwear, toys, and stationery. There are also four trial rooms for women and two for men up here.
Prices are heavily discounted across almost every single aisle compared to standard MRP. I jotted down some of the most notable offers I saw while filling up my cart:
| Product | MRP | DMart Price | Your Saving |
| Gold Winner Oil (5L) | ₹1,045 | ₹878 | ₹167 |
| Vim Washing Liquid (2L) | ₹435 | ₹325 | ₹110 |
| Ariel Front Load Liquid (5Kg) | ₹769 | ₹649 | ₹120 |
| Comfort Fabric Conditioner (800ml) | ₹235 | ₹169 | ₹66 |
| Himalaya Baby Shampoo (400ml) | ₹355 | ₹199 | ₹156 |
| Pampers Pants (L Size, 42 Count) | ₹560 | ₹375 | ₹185 |
| Huggies Pants (M Size, 32 Count) | ₹299 | ₹209 | ₹90 |
| Rin Soap (250g – 6 Pack Combo) | ₹155 | ₹142 | ₹13 |
| Pedigree Adult Dog Food (2.8Kg) | ₹730 | ₹620 | ₹110 |
| Whiskas Cat Food (1.2Kg) | ₹450 | ₹360 | ₹90 |
| Tedibar Baby Soap (75g) | ₹219 | ₹159 | ₹60 |
| Pigeon Nutri Master (3 Jar Mixer) | ₹3,395 | ₹1,499 | ₹1,896 |
| Bajaj Tornado Mixer Grinder | ₹4,250 | ₹2,649 | ₹1,601 |
They also stock their own DMart in-house brands now. I saw a handy little rechargeable fan priced at just ₹549, along with budget-friendly mosquito bats.
My Personal Money-Saving Tips
- Bulk Buying Pays Off: If you have the storage space at home, always opt for the 2L or 5L oil and detergent packs. The per-liter value is significantly better than buying 1L packs repeatedly.
- Bring Your Own Bags: DMart charges for bags at the counter. You can carry your own jute or cloth bags from home to save a few rupees, or buy their printed cotton bags at the counter starting from ₹29.
Billing and Checkout (What to Expect)
There are about 20 billing counters lined up on the ground floor. To keep things moving, they have divided them evenly: 10 counters strictly take cash, and the other 10 handle Cards and UPI payments. Because the crowd was light during my visit, I breezed through the billing line in under two minutes.
Where they can improve: The billing counters up on the first floor were completely shut down. If you buy clothes or plastics upstairs, you still have to bring everything down to the ground floor to pay, which can cause bottlenecks if the ground floor gets busy.
Return Policy & Customer Amenities
If you accidentally buy the wrong size or change your mind, you can return items during working hours as long as the packaging is unopened and in resellable condition. Just keep two things in mind:
- If you paid by credit card, they might deduct a 1% processing charge from your refund.
- For hygiene reasons, they do not accept exchanges on cosmetics, shaving items, undergarments, perfumes, deodorants, hair accessories, or gift-wrapped items.
For convenience, there are separate, clean restrooms for men and women on the first floor, along with a clean drinking water station.
Final Verdict: Is It Worth Visiting?
Operating Hours: 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM (Daily)
Honestly, compared to some of the other hyper-crowded DMart branches in central Chennai, the Avadi store is a breath of fresh air. It is incredibly spacious, clean, well-stocked, and much less stressful to navigate.
The only minor letdown is that unlike some larger shopping complexes, there are no snack stalls, popcorn stands, or ice cream counters inside to grab a bite after shopping. But for budget-friendly monthly grocery hauls, it is easily one of the best spots in the area.
