Last Sunday Evening at Marina Beach – Something Unusual Caught My Eye
Last Sunday evening around 7 PM, I visited Marina Beach as usual. The beach was crowded, the weather was pleasant, and since it was a full moon day, many people were enjoying the calm atmosphere.
While walking near the newly built pathway for differently abled persons, I noticed something different that I had never seen before at Marina Beach.
A man had set up a large telescope and people were slowly gathering around him.
Watching the Moon Through a Telescope at Marina Beach: What Visitors Experience
The man was using his telescope to show the moon to visitors. He charged ₹100 per person, and each person was allowed to watch for about one minute.
Since it was a full moon day, the moon looked bright and clear through the telescope. I could clearly see that many people were curious and excited, especially those who were seeing the moon this closely for the first time.
Interestingly, I noticed that many women approached him first and showed great interest. Some people hesitated initially, but after seeing others try it, more visitors joined the queue.
This telescope setup was placed exactly near the recently constructed walking path for differently abled people, which made it easy for everyone to notice.
A Very New Business Idea in Chennai
This telescope moon-viewing activity feels like a very new business concept in Chennai. Even now, many people are not aware that such an experience is available at Marina Beach.
From what I observed:
- No banners or loud promotion
- Only curiosity and word-of-mouth
- Pure interest from beach visitors
Yet, people were willing to pay because the experience felt unique and memorable.
Personally, this telescope business was once part of my own bucket-list business ideas. I always thought about starting something like this but never took action. When I saw someone else doing it, I didn’t feel worried or disappointed — instead, I genuinely felt happy that someone turned a simple idea into reality.
Changing Business Trends at Marina Beach
Apart from the telescope, I also noticed how small businesses at Marina Beach are changing.
Earlier, Marina Beach mostly had:
- Fast food stalls
- Tea and cool drink shops
But now, things are different.
Handmade Cakes Sold by Individuals
I saw handmade brownies and cakes being sold by individuals, not regular shop owners. One moment that stood out to me was a small kid and his mother selling cakes together.
The mother started this small business because her daughter suggested the idea. This shows how even simple ideas can turn into income opportunities when acted upon.
These sellers don’t look like traditional vendors — they look like normal families trying something creative to earn.
Curiosity Is the Real Business at Marina Beach
What connects all these small businesses — telescope viewing, handmade cakes, and snacks — is curiosity.
- People are curious to see the moon closely
- People are curious to taste homemade food
- People are curious about something new
Marina Beach is slowly becoming a place not just for walking and relaxing, but also for micro-entrepreneurship.
My Thoughts
That evening made me realize one thing very clearly:
You don’t always need a big shop or huge investment to start a business.
Sometimes, all you need is a simple idea, courage, and the right place.
Seeing someone execute an idea that once lived only in my thoughts didn’t discourage me. Instead, it reminded me that ideas have value only when acted upon.
Marina Beach continues to surprise — not just with its beauty, but with the people and ideas that come alive there every evening.
